50 Lil' Habits: Clear Clutter
Reduce stress by maintaining a clutter-free zone in a space that you can control.
Our "go big or go home" culture has left many people feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and gloomy, when all it takes is a lil’ action to turn things around.
Want to try out a new daily habit? I've got a few suggestions.
Here's one:
Maintain a clutter-free zone in a space that you can control.
Speaking of all-or-nothing bullshit, the topic of clutter seems to be oriented to a perfectionist’s utopia where pristine minimalism is the goal. I am here to wag a finger and definitively say: Nuh-Uh.
One person’s clutter is another person’s comfort. I like to see my things. When I arrive in any sterile space, like a hotel room, I spread an assortment of goodies all around me to feel instantly “at home.”
You get to set your own clutter-meter and determine the limits for yourself. Once you decide what clutter is to you, go lil’ and choose a space that you have control over (e.g., your desk, closet, under your bed) so that your lil’ habit isn’t dependent on anyone but you, and begin a daily habit of eliminating clutter. This is a great habit to do timed.
Decluttering is not the same as tidying. When you declutter, you remove and re-home unnecessary items. If you keep an item, store it in a better place, otherwise donate, sell, recycle, or trash it. Once the space has been decluttered, keep it clutter-free with daily routine sweeps.
